Those fuel consumption specs that the government puts out are crap and only apply to 80 year old grandma's who drive at 50MPH and take 10 minutes to get up to that speed.

I'll have to completely disagree with that statement. All gasoline powered passenger vehicles are put through a specific program on a dyno. All vehicles run the same program. The program is recorded and varified by the EPA. The fuel mileage is accurately measured from these dyno runs. If the numbers are not realistic, they are at least relative.
Does that mean you will achieve these numbers? No. The highway or more agressive program that an XRS has to run may or may not '
hit lift'. I do not know. I would hazard to guess that if it does hit lift, its only in lift for a very small amount of time. Those of you who 'hit lift' liberally will not achieve EPA spec's. Simple as that. Those that drive conservatively will, assuming there is no issues with the car.
I drive conservative and don't have lift since I do not have an XRS. If I did have an XRS, I would imagine that I'd have to use it liberally.

My last tank I put ~520 miles on the tank, and filled up with about 13.35 gallons. I usually run it very low. And I have put about 13.8 gallons in the tank when the owner's manual says its a 13.2 gallon tank. I realize I'm obsessed about filling a tank, but I stand there and make sure its absolutely topped ... it takes a bit of time. I also check the oil (even though the car is relatively new and it never drops). Checking the oil is a habit for me, a good one. It became a habit from when I drove an '84 Celica with 290,000+ miles on it, then a '90 Celica with 205,000+ miles on it. Both of which used a little, and the '84 would end up empty if you didn't stay on top of it.
Anyway, I can usually go 475 miles easy on a tank, but that's a well topped off tank.
