FM static? '03 up Corollas

Does anyone else get FM static now and again in their Corolla? Mine has the worst reception of any stock stereo I've owned. I live about 20 miles from downtown LA, so I think I'm pretty close to all of the transmitters. Some stations (the strongest?) are no problemo, but others have static that fades in and out. Not major, but enough to be annoying. Otherwise, the stereo on the LE is surprisingly good for a stocker. CDs sound great!

I expect that it's related to our oh-so-stylish foot-long stubby roof antennas. Anybody have any luck with something aftermarket? Maybe one of those 3" - 4" models?

Please share...

The ae works fine. Yours may have become disconnected. If the static changes with the rpm, then you may have a bad filter, grd, or ignition problem.

I had my 05 radio replaced and since then the static is pretty bad for a radio.
I figured the dealer screwed up and forgot to plug-in the antenna...but since you're having the problem too, it's probably these crappy stock radios (which periodically come back with "ERROR 3" whenever you try to play CD's).

Warranty the junk.
