i recently converted my '93 rolla with 175000km on it and yes the oil consumption increased alot
so, the oil probably washed out my motor and all the dirt went off so everything is leaking now?
the car is at the garage today to check tthis out, so basicaly i should changed all the gasket & pistons rings?
sounds alot of $$$ for me, but well, its probably worth it for a motor...

Whose oil did you use? I'd be interested in the response from the manufacturer. Based on the information from the Mobil site (as an example) I would think that they are liable for at least part of the repair.
Also....just for conversation sake, what oil had you used previously (brand and viscosity), what were your oil change interval habits and did it use any oil between changes??
alwasy used 10w30, i used Prolab 5w30 synthetic with anti-friction included in it
every 5000km since i have it (8 months)
got the link for the repair part you described in your reply?

I have already switched the XRS to synthetic. I plan on changing to synthetic on my 99 Civic Si on the next oil change. Current mileage is 164K. I will post again if I notice any oil loss.

mon camarade,
if it is leaking, you can see it, either you'll have an oily motor or spots on the ground. In all likelyhood, the piston rings have been held tight by the oil soot and now that's been washed out, so they pump oil into the combustion chambers. You actually may not see that yourself, but perhaps you have blue smoke when changing gears or under motor braking??
I wouldn't do all that works with such a high mileage motor, rather have a reworked engine fitted, it's probably cheaper. Alternatively, change to an oil formulated especially for high mileage engines and see what happens.

Ciao,
Joachim
there's no spot on the ground, no blue smoke either, so i guess the rings have been washed out.
is there synthetic oil for high milleage engines?
everyone told me its not good to switch form synthetic to mineral oil
