4th Generation '80 stock carburetor

is the stock carburetor for the '80 corolla a single or double barrel???.....the one thats on the car now is double....but i remember the guy i bought it from saying he put a new carb on...supposedly....only reason i ask is because i've been doing some reading on carbs.....and from what i've read so far....i already founds some problems....like the choke plate is stuck open....only one barrel is opening....and the fuel level is lower than is should be....and i want to know if i'm dealing with the right carb before i start messing with it....thanks

The Stock carb is an Aisin 2 barrel Carb. The primary barrel is operated by the throttle cable and the secondary barrel is vacuum operated. It is like half a 4 barrel carb on a V8. There should be a tag on the carb for the carb number 28100, 28101, something like that.

4th Generation

then its the right carb....i looked for that tag....but i didn't see it.....so that gives me the impression that the guy tried to repair it.....which would explain the stuck choke plate.....now...does the secondary barrel only open during higher SPEEDS....or higher RPM'S???.....because i rev the engine while looking at the carb....and it doesn't open....

The choke may not be stuck. It probably is an electrically heated choke and the choke plate is held in position by the bimetal element.

It seems to me that the secondary only opens during high speed and when accelerating hard.

The tag is a small rectangular metal tag to the right of the site glass a few inches up
attached to one of the carb screws for the air horn.

okay...from what i've found on the net thus far......this is my understanding of how the choke plate works......when you start the engine the choke plate is closed to create vacuum to pull gas to start the engine....as the engine warms up....the choke plate opens....allowing the carb to work on its own....now the more i look at the carb....i swear its jammed open....behind this little "bump" on the inside of the carb....i looks like it would be a "bump stop" for the choke plate....except that its on the wrong side....wish i could take a pic to show you i mean....

and there is no tag...it should be "right there".....but its not....
