Question about 89 gts

I just got a messed up toyota corrola gt-s 1989 for free , something is wrong with the engine but from the words of my uncle, nothing hard to fix just need entire weekend 2 do it, . I'm thinking about into putting in some money and effort to fix the car since it had only, 100k on it(still not sure how).
My question is, did anyone have any expirence modifying this type of car, and what's the top pwer and speed he got out of the car. I'm sorry if the threat is to general... but i'm not sure about the car and just wanted some advice.
Any response will be appreciated

Well there's alot that can be done if you look in the right places. Its got a decent aftermarket and you can swap in/modify various engines that are practically a direct bolt-in [Redtop 4AGE (high compression, found in 90 - 91 corolla GT-S's), 4AGZE (Supercharged, found in AW11 body MR2s and can be easily imported), 4AGTE (turbo charged conversion of the 4AGZE, pretty much just swap on a turbo), and 20valve 4AGE (comes in two forms: Silvertop and Blacktop, basicly 1st and 2nd gen 20 valves)]. I dunno about how fast these cars get (if you mean by the drag strip), but they do have alot of potential if your willing to work with them.

100k miles is awesome man. Got any pics of the car? If you want it fast, swap in a 3S-GTE.
