4th Generation Power Door Lock quit working

My driver's door power lock quit working about a week ago.. It doesnt work with keyless entry or with the normal lock and unlock button in the car. .. Making my keyless entry completely pointless now..

Could the actuator have gone out? Or something be loose?

I just tried to take the door panel off but couldnt figure it out. I took the screw off behind the door handle and the screw off on the left side of the door (part where it goes in jam when closed), took the mirror adjustor cover plate off, and took the cover plate off the actual lock.
I still didnt know what to do next..

It is a 98 Corolla, and its the driver's side door.

Thanks.

Not really sure about how to take the door off on a 98.

On a 93-97 you take the mirror adjuster cover off, pry out power window/lock controls and disconnect the wires, pry up the hand rest and unscrew two screws from under it, and then take the door handle screw out and pull the door handle toward the front of the car and then out. Then pry the door trim off.

In any case, if you still hear the power door lock sound coming from the door when you press the button, just the lock doesn't move it's not the actuator.

I had a problem with mine, rear left power door lock seemed to only go down half way. The sound was still coming from the door though, so when the dealer told me I needed a new actuator I knew it was b/s.

I took the door apart and WD-40'd everything in sight and all the locks worked perfect after that.

Anyway, I think it just needs a little oiling up!

Once you remove the panel how did you get access to the accuator to spray the WD40?

I didn't really get access to any particular part. I just sprayed everything in the general lock area using WD-40 with the straw to get in that corner of the door. Spray everything that looks like a moving part.

Also disregard what I said about the locks not working after that. That was due to something else entirely. You won't mess up your locks by spraying oil there.

Spraying will only help of course if you can hear the actuator making that lock sound. If there's no sound coming from the door when you press the lock/unlock button then it's probably an electrical problem.
