Hot day equals mad crazy stuff...

So anyway, I'm working on the motor on the driveway. Had to double check that the cams seals were lined up right so basically had to backtrack and remove the T-belt, cam gears, all those covers, valve covers yadda yadda. My tools were set on the ground next to the car and when I reached down to pick one up, I noticed that the brick under the rear wheel and "melted" into the driverway ...

well, the house is only about 3 years old and the driveway only 2 years old so I knew my parents wouldn't be happy about this. So i tried to push the car up the driveway, anchor another brick at a different spot while i dug that one out. After 15 minute of rocking the car and not making any porgress, i gave up and decided to push the car over the half sunken brick and onto the street. It worked ... and i got the brick out and tried to pound the driveway flat ... didn't work. But now dinner time was approaching and since we were all going out, I had to find a way of getting the car back on the driveway. This is where honda and toyota became the best of friends.

My civic stock shifter played an important role too!
\

But anyway, riddle me this: the pipe that goes from the exhaust manifold and behind the engine, how do i tighten that? i can't possibly fit any tools back there for the 24mm nut ...

your speaking about those 4 nuts that conntect the downpipe to the exhaust manifold correct?
You can use the 14" deep-socket with a long extension to get in there...
it works perfectly... you might have to use that elbow bender thing, but I haven't had to use one anytime...AT ALL!
If you're still having problems getting it off,
msg back, and i'll come take a look at it and try, that is, if you don't live that far.

Thanks for the offer. It's not the downpipe I'm talking about. Y'know that one pipe with the big-ass bolt that feeds the exhaust gases/temperature to some valves behind the motor ... it comes out of the last pipe of the 4 that make up the exhaust manifold and if I'm not mistaken, it's feeding into the EGR valve ...

you mean tighten the actual bolt which holds the egr pipe to the manifold?
It should be a 22 socket, use an extension, (and use 1/2" tools if you have them), Put a long pipe on the end of the ratchet, and then crank!

Sad part is, I didn't take it off. When I got the car, it had the blown head gasket and some supposed "technician" had taken most of the head apart (without labelling anything) and I got the car towed to me with a box of parts, nuts and bolts in the trunk. Now a a year later, I've almost piece it back together with new gaskets and seals but I can't figure this one out ...d'oh. i guess i <could> remove the EGR valve, bolt up that pipe and install the 2 together ... damn i hate my life. every step I've taken has been followed by taking 3 steps back to double check things or undo thing ... sheesh. i guess it's part of the fun but I want to get her running for september or perhaps even track day T_T

To save your ashphalt driveway. Use a 1/2 inch thick plywood as a base.
