Replacing Stock Toyota Radio Faceplate

Hello,

I'm looking at possibly replacing the faceplate of the radio for my 2004 Corolla CE. I have a few questions about this:

1.) Is the plate that is stock really a faceplate as I have been lead to believe or is it a full unit which I would have to compleatly replace.

2.) If it is a faceplate what companies sell compatible face plates; or is it just a generic connection?

3.) Will swapping the plates hurt the performance of my audio system? (Disable control to the bass or make it choppy?) [I think the answer to this one should be no but I'm new to this ]

Also I have a few other less related questions

I'm currently driving a mom-pop car, as in I don't own it, I'm trying to restrain any modding I do to things I can easily take off in order for them to be able to sell it to someone at a good price. I've done (And no these arn't ricy): Interior neons, door inserts, windshield vinyl, seat covers/shoulder pads + steering wheel cover, lower mesh grill in the front.

Any ideas on some other mods like that?

Thank you,
Asheron

Edit: Forgot to include this question:

Is there any kind of disk stack setup I can hook up in the trunk like toyota does but by myself (for cheaper)?

I'm a bit confused so I'll tell you how it is.

The stock radio on an 03/04/05 Corolla is a double DIN size and has the face plate attached. So if you're looking to install a better aftermarket radio, you'll need to get a new face plate for it since those are single DIN sizes...leaving a big hole to fill.

Last time I checked, BestBuy has the correct face plates for aftermarket radios. Hop in there and aske to see it. Now I haven't seen anything different or better than that....as the face plate fills the empty space with a little storage container. Personally I hate it - it's ugly, it's a dirt collector, and is useless IMHO...but others may disagree. I prefer the clean look rather than having stuck sticking out all over the place.

I think this issue has come up before here. Do a search and you might find a photo or link.

Good luck!

The little shelf, on first impressions, may be very stupid because even if you put stuff in there, once you brake and acclerate, everything falls out because the surface is smooth.

However, if you put something like a small piece of cloth and use something like velcro to hold it in place, it's actually pretty useful to put small junk in there (my parking permit that I hang on my rear view mirror, for example).

thanks, it also comes with Sirius AND XM radio, I like both plus I get to watch a DVD while listening to music on the radio, I removed an Eclipse AVN2454 (I think ) in dash DVD with flip screen... It was in the car when I bought it but when its cold outside the screen refused to come out On hot days it works fine I called Eclipse and they wanted $600. to repair it So NOW its in the garage in the original box, rotting away

my XM Radio
