AutoTrader: North Bay AE86 for sale inspected

On Friday last week I took a road trip from TO to North Bay (3.5 hours) to check out this AE86 that was posted in the AutoTrader. Search for it .. it's the only one in there currently.

He was only willing to go down to $3200 for it and it had some problems. Check out the many pictures I took:

I tried to comment on them as I show the pics. Some other things that were wrong was a leaking window on the interior and some new bubbling rust on the driver door and driver quarter panel.

ah, sorry, what city is this again? I thought it was TO.. and in TO, you'll (almost) never find a car that nice for $2G's.. it looks good to me.. if i was him, i'd be asking that much too..

the under body looks really clean.. check out that panhard rod.. even my ae86 from alberta's pan hard was rustier than that (they always get rusty).. that tells me something..

me, i'll prolly pull out 2.5 g's for it... just don't feel comfortable with a guy that's not from the ae scene asking that much.. but anyway, very decent.. worth considering only, if it's 2.5g's or 3.2 e and cert

I've owed a few AE's and would be willing to pay a fair price for one in decent condition. But I agree more with the previous posts. $2000 tops is what I would pay from what I've seen in your pics. Try to find one with original paint. When it's repainted they're usually been to rusted to bear.

The guy was firm on $3200. A guy from Chicago was willing to pay $3000 "sight unseen" ... another guy in town was willing to pay $3200. And to top it off the guy's brother was willing to take it off his hands for $3000. Could be complete BS but in any case there was no convincing him that it was worth less than $3200.

The guy wasn't into the AE "scene" as we know it. His brother is a rally driver guy and owned several AE's ... he's got a bunch of busted parts in his shed (including a rad of questionable condition). This guy in particular owned 3 86's but never raced them. I don't think he was being dishonest but I could tell he was witholding some information from me.

It was well worth the drive ... I'm glad I got to drive one that's in semi-good condition. Oh the thing was in a collision for sure. The firewall is new and some things didn't fit right. If you want you're free to negotiate with the guy altho he will not go for $2500.

i agree with 'ae86forever' , if the car is completly repainted you are probably bying a car which is a complete rust bucket... if you dont think this is a problem then pay $3200 or what ever... but i dont think i want to deal with any more body shop and order new parts from japan just so my car looks ok... anyways, good luck to he who buys the car ^^
