on my 93 corolla i need to drop in a new engine. now i have a couple of choices. i can put in the stock corolla engine either the 1.9 or 1.6. i could put it the 4age which is the mr2 twin cam, the 4agze which is the mr2 supercharged or the 3sgte which is the turbo one. which one is better the supercharhed or the turbo charged and can i have both?
4AGE is also found in the Corolla GTS FWD (not RWD like the MR2) and the 4AGZE was also found in the Corolla Levin GTZ and the Sprinter Trueno GTZ in japan (which is basically the same as the Corolla coupes) both also FWD if you could get either motor from a Corolla GTS or GTZ, it would be an easier swap since you would get the FWD transmissions.
The 4AGE and 4AGZE swap would be the better choice since the 93 Corolla has the same mounting points since both AE92 and AE101 have A series motors (4AGE, 4AFE, 7AFE). This swap would be cheaper and less time consuming.
If money and time are not an issue to you, then sure.. go for the 3SGTE swap. Remember the 3SGTE swap is only found in AWD form (as in ALL WHEEL DRIVE) and in mid engine RWD form (MR2) so if you're looking to put it into a FWD (as in FRONT WHEEL DRIVE) car like the Corolla, then you're going to have a to find a FWD transmission. The 3SGE transmission is probably your best bet, which is found in older ST165 and ST182 Celicas, but you will probably have to upgrade your clutch to a heavier duty than stock. Now the S series motors and the A seriers motors don't share the same mounting points, so you'll have to do some custom work when it comes to engine mounts, plus transmission mounts on top of that. Lets hope you're getting a 3SGTE with full harness and ECU so that this makes your swap a little easier.
Shit.. no matter how many times I repeat myself on this issue, I don't mind teaching the newbs. This is why we stress the SEARCH BUTTON around here.
well said... also keep in mind you have the 20valve motors as well which is about the same level of difficulty (the way i see it) as the 4agze
however my answer to this repeated topic would be.... i think the best route to go is the 4agze as it is pretty much bullet proof for anything your into... if you went this route you would then have the option to keep the S/C or fab up a Turbo of any sort..
and to answer your second question "can i have both?" i say yes but its not really recomended (more details on twin charging on this forum as well if u look for it)

actually....... the turbo mr2 uses a "FWD" transmission..... the linkage is on the wrong side (and that's easily fixed). The turbo mr2's use an E150 transmission.... the mr2 SC transmission is the same internally (e51) but has different mounts and a different bellhousing to bolt up to the 4agze.... you could potentially use an e50 with an e150 bellhousing.... then you need to only modify ONE mount, and it's an easy modification
IMO a 4agze is the way to go though
4age's were also found in the ae86 gts (different intake manifold and water pump hardlines) and the ae92 geo prizm gsi's

Yeah.. shit.. forgot about 4AGZE twincharging.. Turbo and Supercharger all in one motor.
the only cool thing about twincharging is to say "i have a twincharged motor, look".... then that's about it..... whatever gains you think you will get from having both you can have from just a turbo..... as long as you size the turbo correctly to the engine you can make low end torque and high hp (to a point).... brent picasso on mr2oc (and a local around here) is making like 240whp and 230ft/lb torque with his 4agte using a t25

so with the 4agze i could get it for mad cheap but they sed i would have to go to someone to rewire it for me cuz it aint the same but the 4age wouldnt need any wirein do i need to wire it again or would it work for the same as the 4age
ok i still need to know for the 4agze will i need to pay an electrition extra money in order for the 4agze to be wired or will it fit on the same wireing harness and jus work as if i were placing back the stock engine. and how much do you think i should b paying for the swap and what should i ask for when buying the engine- if its rebuilt.. etc

it will need a lot of wiring...... if you're going to do something as complicated as a motorswap you should buck up and do it yourself..... most motorswaps will make the car less reliable (because it makes it much less stock), and if something goes wrong and you don't know what you're doing, you're up shit creek
