So I had a blow bulb.. replaced the bulb and nothing.. so I had to take the corner lamp out.. (The one right under the headlight on AE92 coupes) turns out the wires had rusted off and kinda melted together.. I fixed the wiring and still nothing!
Does anyone know if there's a fuse or a relay of some kind for these lights?? I couldn't find it anywhere, all my other lights work fine except this one.. so I know there's gotta be another fuse of some kind or a relay somewhere. Once again, this is for the corner lamps on AE92 coupes.
Is your a car a Canadian or a US model? According to my '90 wiring diagrams, the Canadian cars have a "running light relay", but I am not sure where it is. Nor am I sure that "running lights" are what you are describing. The US cars have no such relay, so it sounds like you either have a bad combination switch or more bad wiring if your car is a US model. Regards, Aaron
AE92's didn't have running lights.. well Canadian models as far as I know. I think they became standard after 91.
According to my manual, at least some Canadian AE92s had them in 1990, anyway. Perhaps they were optional, but I know the US models didn't have them at all. Not at all sure about '89, though. Would the lights you are describing be considered "running lights"? Are these the same as DRLs? If you are having problems with standard parking lights, I don't think there is a relay that controls these. It may be a bad switch or more flukey wiring? I have a sedan myself, so I am kind of guessing here about the coupe based on what the service manual is telling me. Regards, Aaron
It is a 1990 Toyota FACTORY Service Manual. Printed by the folks who made these. To be honest, I am kinda surprised you don't have one for your '89. At any rate, it provides very DETAILED wiring diagrams, albeit for a 1990 coupe not an '89. The manual is very good about pointing out differences not only between coupes and sedans, but also Canadian vs American models. DRLs were an option, at least, on 1990 Canadian models.
I guess the lights in question would be the parking lights then, right? Would these lights be different from the turn signals on the coupes (they are on the sedans)? The 4-way flasher would not have anything to do with this, would it? I assume you checked the lamp socket connections to make sure they are clean? Have you checked for 12v at the light socket connector with a voltmeter? Is the bulb blowing immediately after you change it, or does it not come on at all? On my car, the headlight and EFI relays are the same...you might try switching the headlight relay and the EFI relay just to see if it makes a difference. As near as I can tell, there is no relay that controls the parking lights...they run right off of the switch through the taillight relay. But if your taillights are working, then I suspect it is a ground/short/corrosion problem. Regards, Aaron
I'll have to find one.. they're hard to get and probably not cheap either.
anyways.. see if you can scan the wiring diagram for the lights.. I need specially the one for the lamps, passanger side to be exact. I will owe you a million!
Mine was about US$40 used on Ebay. I will keep my eyes open for a cheap 1989 Edition manual for you. I will try to scan the diagrams...your car is a Canadian model, right? The diagrams are kind of big, unwieldy, fold-out sort of deals...not easy to scan. I'll do my best, though!. Regards, Aaron
I had a similar problem that turned out to be corrosion on the tabs of the bulb holder. Also check the copper traces that contact those tabs. You'll probably have to remove the assembly from the car to check it.
I did.. removed everything and re-wired the line going to the corner lamp twice. Still no power... That's why I'm wondering if there's either a fuse or anything else going into it. The driver side lights up fine, its only the passanger side that doesn't want to light up. worst comes to worse, I'll have to rewire both sides to run of the turn signals.
