Question engine light

My check engine light came on last night during my commute home. Car is running ok,all fluids were full when I checked them.
Is this just a sensor going bad or something more serious.
Book says go to Toyota dealer, can Auto Zone check and see what code comes up and what to do.
In put appreciated.

What else should I check

ack! what model, version, year? CEL relatively common (as problems go). If it's under warranty, take to dealer and let them worry about it.

Considering you should always connect the positive first then the negative or you'll get sparks and if theres hydrogen gas coming out of the battery at that time.. Kaboom.
