Timing Belt Question

Guys-
I'm relatively new to Corollas, but I recently purchased a 1991. It's a sweet little car, but I'm worried about the timing belt. The car has 140,000 miles on it. The previous owner "thought" he had changed the belt back at 70,000 miles.

How important is this to change now? The 4AGE is an interference-type engine right? In otherwords, if the belt brakes, pistons meet valves, right?

If I should change it, how hard is it to do myself? Is there an online source for info on changing it?

Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Mark

change it, no use skimping on a few dollar part and risking bent valves, cracked pistons etc.

I kind of figured that I should change it, but needed a shove in teh @ss to get me to do it.

So... how hard is it to change? What's involved? What's the best source for info on how to do it?

takes like an hour or 2 to change....buy a haynes manual from autozone. you'll need a puller to get the crank pulley off. other than that basic metric tools and an impact would help. I'm don't think it's an interference motor...the 4aFE isn't i know that much.

While you're changing it you should get your water pump changed too. Since you've down 1/2 the work already! That's my 2 cents!
