YO i got a 91 corolla slx wit carberator . In the morning the car takes a long time to warm up i notice , the car idle's high. then maybe 4min later going bak to normal idle . Just wondering is this normal. Also car lacking power , such as when on the straight my foot would be down on the floor and u can tell the car is really pushing hard but not giving acceleration. I took the car to carberator shop the guy tells me the the carb needs renewal (cause not enough fuel feding to the engine) , BUT the thing is the car has only done 100k , HOW CAN A CARBI GO AT JUST DOING 100K ? The prev owner was a ladie she only drove it to work and bak (IN SAME SUBURB!). Any way if the carbi really does need changing its shame cause its got original on now , carbi guy would just keep it.
A carberator on a 91?? Must be a non-US thing! Or am I wrong there?
No idea on the car problem though, sounds like maybe you aren't getting enough spark or something, as in my girlfriends Lumina. Ran fine, but had no power... it was the coil packs.
Just because the car only has 100k doesn't mean shit.. she probably didn't drive it enough.. and shit rusts away and clogs with crap just sitting there, specially carbs. Get it cleaned, its probably dirty.
Aaron.. Toyota stopped making Carb cars in 1988 in North america, they must have kept going in other continents.

Actually, the carb was produced for North America in '89, too. The first year that all Corollas were fuelies was 1990 Kinda surprised that they kept using them in other countries at least to '91, though. Lower emissions standards in other countries, I guess. And we Americans are supposed to be the world's big polluters! Regards, Aaron
Ya, just unloaded my precious 89 Carb'ed (sigh), One of the problems was the ECU controlled carb specially the Cali emissions version. Nobody was willing to work on it and I messed it so I wasn't sure if it will pass the emissions. Now is this 91 really carbed and if so is it controlled by the ECU and 36 vacuum lines runnning in and out of it or just a "normal" carburator?
yer the carbi shops say to much hasle cleaning it out , just relpace it they say. if it does need cleaning maybe i can use a product that cleans carbis , does any one know of such thing , Ive been useing cartex VERTEX petrol (which is ment to clean the fuel line out dont know if that would help? )
thanks and cheers theseas!

Ahhh, yes, GM's wonderful coil packs. I'd never even heard of coil packs, let alone had a problem with them, until we inherited my dad's old '95 Olds 88...... coil packs and ignition module (something like that) generally fail at least once per year, if not more often...POS GM BS Although the last 2 times, my mech replaced them for free, beings as it was still under warranty...LOL. Can't wait to be able to afford another Toyota to complement our '05 S, but that's looking like years down the road....so I'm stuck driving this big green POS 88 Royale
