Red versus Pink Coolant

On the left is the new PINK coolant, on the right the old RED coolant.

What's with the new pink coolant? Can I use it on my old Corolla (red coolant is currently installed)? The red coolant isn't available anymore...

I would believe the other one is a 50/50 premix and the other is 100% raw stuff.

one is long life and one is "SUPER" long life... ask Toyota and see what they say, the ingredients might be different so you may be required to flush and put the new stuff.

I agree with speed. To many companies are screwing with coolant these days. There was nothing wrong with the green stuff to begin with. Now theres like 20 different colors that have different properrties and if you mix it with the wrong color it could become acidic and eat through the aluminum.

The pink is pre mixed. Just put it in the radiator and thats it. The red has to be mixed with water. The pink is good for 100,000 miles also.

i think that you are actually supposed to keep using the same kind that you already have in your car. I don't know for sure but it seams like someone told not to change types.

I bought a 2004 Tacoma - 2.4 liter 4 cyl in 2004. I had the same question...red or pink.

On another forum I ran across a guy who had some genuine Toyota spec sheet data on these 2 coolants.

Here's a synopsis of the data.

1. RED is for pre-2004 Toyota's. You must pre-mix yourself as it's 100 % coolant.

2. PINK is for 2004 and above Toyota's. It's pre-mixed with water.

The PINK is about double the price of the RED.

It does seem like a rip... half the coolant for twice the $$$, but....

On another car forum that I participate on, a Ford engineer told me that the newer coolants dissipate heat much better than the traditional green coolants.

I'm not suggesting what anyone should use, just passing on information.

I personally believe that if you drained/flushed the ENTIRE system anually, you could use green + distilled H2O.

I'm not going to take the chance. It not worth whatever "long term" damage that might result from using the older coolant.

My 2 cents.
