AE86 Brazing vs Welding my 20v intake

my 86 is still under 20v surgery here and need to "reverse" the intake hole because the intake would shoot to the firewall.

So, i cut the sticking out opening where the intake hooks up to (now there's just a hole) and need tips on cutting thru the barely 1/16" steel cover on the other side...i saw this tool in home depot that attaches to the drill and rotating fast will open the 2 3/4" hole

then there's brazing/welding...home depot has the $50 kit with torch and two tanks (MAAP and Oxygen) and it says it can weld up to 3/16" steel and it has bars for brazing and what not...should i braze or weld?

i dont know how to braze or weld so i'm looking for tips...i'm up for the job though!
a loca muffler shop wants $175 to do this cut 'n welding job

need pics? i can post some of the intake...just ask

I would recommend to braze it. Because the intake is not under a grest deal of stress. Also Brazing is like heavy duty soldering. Welding is actually bonding two metals togeather with another agent.
Mig or tig welding will give you the cleanest finish.

I had my airbox TIG welded, my machinist was complaining how Toyota used cheap quality metal for the stamped intake. Eventhough it's not really a stressed part, I would still have it TIG welded since you don't want the AFM hanging off a weak airbox.

He took his time and the weld ended up looking completely factory.

...I sent you a PM as well

pm replied thanks!

I bought a $50 home depot welder/brazer kit (maap+oxy tanks) and with an extra oxy tank i was able to cut the new tip and make the new hole w/ some heating/hammering. Not bad for a first timer w/ a sucky torch.

BTW, a muffler shop i know didnt wanna do the job 'cause their TIG welders would've completely destroyed my intake

But didnt have enough oxygen to finish the brazing...just managed to do enough to hold the tip in position over the new hole...now i need to take it somewhere to finish the job...unless derek gives me an offer i can't refuse

funny how my dad just brought me a fresly home made venezuelan style margarita

btw derek: i'm in 33498, FL...use this for the shipping
