Radiator Hose help.

Ok, I open the hood of my car...just wanting to do my first oil change, when I come across my top radiator hose lookingl like this.

THe radiator has been giving me a LOT of problem, first this hose leaks, so we bought a new one to put on...then afterwards..the radiator cracks so our mechanic put a new one in with a new top hose, but then now and then, my temperature would rise up...and then fall back down to normal and go up again. I see the hose and it looks like air has been sucked out of it. What should I do? I don't think i need a new hose since this hose is pretty new, should i just take it out and make it look normal and put it back in?

If your temp rises and falls frequently, I'd check the thermostat.

The wrong radiator hose might have been installed. Most lower radiator hoses have a steel wire spring in them to keep them from colapsing. Some upper hoses have them too or are thicker and stiffer.
Best to find out the brand of hose you got and go to the dealer and compare.

it might be the rad cap, it may not be letting coolant into the system as it cools, causing the hose to colapse. take the cap off and see if it comes back. check your lower hose to see what its doing. niether hose has a wire in it, if you need to replace hoses buy the toyota ones the canadian tire hoses dont fit right and mine leaked because of it ...also see if the coolant is low my guess is that its low

Thank you all for the advices and help. I went to check the car a few hours later and the hose seems to look normal again. I will be checking it frequently to see if it still does that. If it does, I will check the hoses and radiator caps. The coolant reserve tank has a bunch of coolant in there, but maybe that is because it doesnt get through the system, I don't know, I will poke around to see whats up. Thanks again everyone.

If you are having temp readings that jump around, I would suspect the thermostat. It maybe bad. I had that happen to my celica.

Ok guys, the overheating is coming a lot more often, and it usually goes above the red, and i drive it around after a while, it drops back down to normal, but then goes back up again..and stays up for a while. Sometimes when it coems back down to normal I can hear the fluid..or some sucking noise infront of the car...like when you are sucking a straw of an almost empty cup. Can soemone help?

Subie,

You may want to check the thermostat. I bet that is your problem.

Check your cap. The hose collasped due to vaccum. Probably the cap only let collant out but no in. Openning the cap should get hose back to shape with rad need to fill coolant.
Wait shouldn't the bottom hose go to the thermo? You sure the hose are connected correctly? Coolant get out from block into top of rad then got to water pump at bottom of rad. This make sure coolant will circulate even level is low. If its reversed, you won't have any circulation.
