USA engine squeaking after rain storm

Just found this great website after having an issue with my 2003 Corolla S. I've had it about a month now (bought is used with 35k), and we've been having a lot of rain lately. I was driving it yesterday and all was great. This afternoon when I went to take it for a spin there was this squeaking sound coming from the engine as soon as I started it. It's a high pitched squeaking, and it accelerates as I step on the gas, both in neutral and in drive. I'm thinking it's probably a belt of some type, but I'm wondering it if has anything to do with all the rain. Any ideas what I should do? Take it to the shop? Could the belts have gotten all wet? Any thoughts??
Thanks for your help.

yeah, sounds like moisture on the belt or pulley.

I'm surprised a lot of people don't recognize the sound of a belt screeching.

umm...i recognized it as being a belt screeching...i was just wondering if it was definitely moisture that started it or what. anywayz, i checked the one belt that I have easy access to on the passenger side of the car (i have no idea what it's called). that belt seemed completely dry. are there other belts that can do this that I can't see? can the timing chain do this? there doesn't seem to be a lot of moisture under the hood, but there is some pooling of water in certain spots.

i am going to have to deal with this sound every time it rains outside? it's really annoying.

You might want to try to tighten the serpentine belt a bit. No timing chain wont do it.

My car is 15yrs older than your car.. I don't hear any screeches coming from my belts when it rains... maybe just a lose belt or its still wet that it screeches.. just check under the hood and tighten up that sucker.

Why would a chain sound like a belt.. or better yet.. How??
