Usually I post in the Camry forum, but my sis just bought a 2005 Corolla LE 5 days ago, and the black plastic cover that goes in the space of the optional foglight fell out. Seeming as though her car is only 5 days old, I am worried that this might be a common problem???
Has anyone else had this problem with the 2003-05? I feel bad because I told her how great Toyotas are, and in the first week her new Toyota has body parts falling off.
Otherwise, she really likes the car, she just switched from a 97 Cavalier Z24, and while her Corolla doesn't really have the same engine strength, she says it is lightyears ahead of her Cavalier in terms of quality, with the exception of this one body part falling off. Plus, I had no idea that '05 Corollas had LED (or whatever) instrumentation. That's really cool.
I've never heard of that problem before. Probably isolated incident. Have the dealer fix it up.
Keep in mind that the statistical average # of defects for Toyota is something like 108 defects per 100 cars. Compared to what....150/100 for GM? So that means there's likely one problem in your Toyota. You just found it...so congratulations!!

Hope she doesn't run into this problem...Radd Guy...

Hi,
you're right, except they aren't defects but rather faults. Most of these faults will not ever result in a defect, they are e.g. impurities in the spraypaint, uneven fitted carpets or doors etc.
108 is world leading, even the Germans are averaging at around 120. And even in Japan
they rarely make it below the 100 marks.
My question to the opener of the subject is :
As far as I know the LE model comes with foglights, not the covers, so perhaps that's the problem, that the stock foglights were removed and covers put in place instead.
Or is this only in Canada? Just a thought.
Congrats on the purchase. Hopefully yours is going to be fine. If only I had a loose fog light cover problem. LOL! I use to think that Toyota built great cars. My first was great. but I can't say the same for my second one. It is a nicer car than the Z24 but I won't say it's as much fun to drive. But just make sure the dealer fixes it. Cause if they say it's wear and tear. Well tear into them about it. HAHAHA!

Yeah, I told her to go back to the dealer....lol. I wish it had foglights.... I think the little black cover is kinda tacky looking in a car that retailed for almost $19K. But the dealer took more than expected off, so I guess she is happy.
My only other complaint is that the individual dealer plastered it's name everywhere on the car. It has a sticker on the trunk, both license plate frames say the dealer's name, the keyfobs even have a cheap sticker on them with the dealer's logo, the owner's manual has a sticker on it, etc... For all that shit, you'd think they'd pay her an advertising fee each month.
When I bought my Camry, I insisted they take all that crap off. I think it all looks tacky.

I can't agree with you more. As far as I'm concerned, puttign a sticker on your car is gauche and those dealers should get their arses kicked. Put your tacky licenseplate cover on...now worries...because I'll rip it off with 5 min of arriving home. But those stickers are a pain. Have them remove them all when she goes back to the dealer to get the foglight cover refitted.
same here. my licence plate does not have an ugly frame.
Dealer's stickers are all removed.
The only way for me to carry dealer's sticker : they need to pay me, I'm not making free of charge advertising for anyone.

Hehe.

Same here.....I made them take the sticker off at the dealer AFTER I had previously told them I didn't want one on there in the first place (my car was shipped in on order from another dealer).....boneheads put one on anyway, so they had to take it off before I took possession of the car. Hmmmmm, perhaps I'll try using that as a bargaining point next time 'round - I'd agree to "advertise" for the dealership if they knock a few hundred more $$$ off the price...ya never know
You know the funny thing? Ususally when you buy a car.... they try to stick on an "advertising fee" on to the final bill. HA! So they not only want to turn your car into rolling advertisement, they want to make you pay for it. It's funny how insistant they they are about the fee, until you get up and walk start to walk away.
I'm usually a nice guy, but when I bought my car I was a complete asshole- but you have to be nowadays. You have to fight every one of those crappy fees until you can get the car out the door for a reasonable price.

LMAO !!! exact same here - in fact, my wife stopped going with me to the dealers for that reason - she didn't "like me that way"....bwahahahaha....hey, ya gots to do what ya gots to do, eh ??
I have had my 05 for three weeks now. I like it a lot so far. Two days ago I hit a raccoon wile driving to work. Both of the fog light blanks poped off the car and some of the lower plastic grill cracked. I repaired the crackes with clear epoxy on the painted side and JB weld on the under side. It looks as good as new. I put the blanks back in place and put a large dab of silicone adhesive on the three clips that hold them in. They won't pop out so easy agin.
