Question engine light's on! what do i do?

hi

i have a 96 corolla sd with about 198k km on it.

while i was driving a few days ago, my engine light came on and it's been on since then whenever i start up the car.

now, the oil's still filled up, although i should change it in about a week or so, and a friend changed the plugs and wires before i bought it in january.

so any ideas what it could be? i'd like to know what the potential problems probably are before going to the mechanic.

thnx!

You know, we get these questions about engine check light on all the time, the same questions.
The answer is, we cant guess what it could be, get the codes read and then see what they say.
