Tire recommendations for 14" wheel

Thinking of going with Kumho Ecsta HP4 716's, but I've also heard good things about the Yokohama Avid H4S. They both come highly recommended from rolla enthusiasts and Tire Rack. Heh, the Yokos are available as V-speed rated in every size but 14", otherwise they are H rated as with the Kumhos.

The other question is tire size. Should I stick with 185/65R14 or rock some 195/60R14's? Btw, they are going on these wheels that I am getting for free from a friend, heh (yes they are Ford Escort wheels) http://www.justporsche.com/images/TR137736-21sm.jpg

Ok, I was wondering if anyone had strangely experienced any problems with that setup. Toyota put 185/65 on there for a good reason, and here I am to go and mess that up I'd love to go with 195/55R15 if/when I get a new set of wheels.

Any tire recommendations? I've got Blizzaks for the snow, so I can go balls out on a summer tire

Go with the 195/55-14's, your car came with 175/65-14 as OEM.. so the better upgrades would be 185/60-14 or 195/55-14. If you go to 15, 195/50-15 would be good.

Well technically yes, 175/65 is OEM and 185/65 is optional but 195/60 is reasonable. Other sizes without a wheel change would make the speedo freak, plus I ride on stock suspension. Play with this: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Anybody got anything to say about tires?

thanks guys

I've been playing with the miata calculator for 4 years now. otherwise I wouldn't be telling you what wheel size won't cause a bad speedo reading.

for tires, I'd go for the Azenis like mike said, the Dunlop SP Sport A2 or Yoko AVS ES100's on that size.

The only tires are Hankook Ventus HRII. These are in the same category as the Falken 512s but better and cheaper. $42 a tire. I just got 205/50/15 for my 95 Corolla, had to file the fenders a bit in the back, but they kick assss.

I would recommend the Yoko Avids. I bought them of off Tire Rack's site for my Grand Prix (prior to buying our Prizm). It was an all around excellent tire. Very quiet and great traction in the rain. I can't speak for the Kumho because I have never owned a set.

Anything but Hankook!! My dad had to get all Hankook tires out of his shop due to unhappy customers with premature tire wear.

205 will not hurt the tires on a 15x7 rim (I have 15x7). You forget to consider rim width. There's 15x6.5 for which 205 might be too wide.

On a 14" 205 is too wide.
