Drive Shaft Bolt

The manual for 05 Corolla and Matrix advises to "tighten drive shaft bolt" at least every 15,000 miles. Does anyone know about this? I would appreciate it if someone could share a picture or description. Also, I would like to know the appropriate torque of the bolt.

I have the 2005 maintenance manuals for the corolla and and the only bolts I see on the drive shafts ( front axles) are the lugs. So my guess would be to check the lug nuts for proper torque. The right and left drive shaft are the front axles... Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm thinking it is not the lugs...

For 2WD models, my maintenance guide book says to retorque drive shaft bolt...for 4WD models it says drive shaft bolts. So, I am sure it has to do with the drivetrain, just don't know where the bugger is on the Rolla or what torque is appropriate.

I too have just purchased a 05 corolla S and read the same thing about the drive shaft bolt and was looking to ask this very same question here. They do make it sound like it is important that it is retorqued often.

I thought 4WD and RWD vehicles only had driveshafts.

Isn't this the same big Hex nut in the center of the front wheel holding the axle. I have never torqued it though, but then I had an 89, gone now!

It's the huge (30 mm I think) nut on the end of both front driveaxles (rears as well on RWD cars)... 159 lb-ft is spec on '93-'97 cars, 166 lb-ft on '98-'02, so use your best judgement or buy a manual. Until the passenger side inboard CV boot blew apart at 130,000 miles, the hub nut on either side had not been checked on my '93 in its entire life.
