I just got a new 05 CE and wonder how to care for the dash. I want to armorall it but I am not sure if it is safe since the dash seems kinda pourus, it looks like it would just soak up the armorall. Anyone have experience with this?
I've heard that Armor All actually ruins a dash over the long run. (It sucks the moisture to the surface, and then the dash dries out and cracks over the years) This is just a rumor- I don't know if it is true, so take it for what it's worth.
Armorall contains alcohol which will overtime ddryout your dash. CaCa. The best stuff I've used is by Mothers. It's called PRESERVES PROTECTANT, and it's great. Not greasy, it has a built in sunscreen, and it's not super shiny so when the sun hits the dash you won't go blind and crash into a school bus.
It's the fourth bottle down.
Armor All is good, even though it does contain alcohol. But it is best if you are addicted to cleaning the interior of your car and you are constantly using the stuff. Mothers is an excellent brand ( I use their wheel polish ).
I have kept the dash of a 97 Tercel looking like new with Armor All. However, that was hard plastic. Sounds like I may have to give Mothers a try on the new car. Where can one buy it? Wally World, online, auto shops?

Where did you see/read that ArmorAll has alcohol in it and mothers didn't?...I have used ArmorAll "ultra shine" since I first bought my 03 rolla S and have had an easy on great lasting/non greasy shine from it with no problems at all...I tried mothers because a auto store here had it on sale and went back to ArmorAll because it left a slightly greasy film for about week but all in all they were about the same in protection/long lasting shine, but sun will kill your interior/dash over time anyway best to use one of those fold out sun blocker that fit on you dash if your parked in the sun for a long time...by the way you can buy mothers at Murray's discount auto stores or Wal-Mart...Radd Guy
i don't know if the wipes are different from the actual spray bottle one, but it was a pain applying it to the upper part the the dash (the not asshiny and as smooth as the other parts one), and the spray didn't spread much. and you can tell where it didn't get to since it's such a dark color (i have an S). after a long time working (buffing) it in it looks pretty nice, just a lot of work. i'm going to try meguiar's the next time i do this and see how it goes. i'm a fan of the meguiar's brand name, so far everything that i've used from them works very nicely.

Meguiar's is a good brand...I think the top selling brands are all pretty close in working well as compared to the discount/cheepy brands, you get what you pay for just like in buying tools.... I found the best way to apply the product is to not spray it on at all and spray it on a soft clothe and ally from the clothe to the dash...etc etc It eliminates getting it on the window and other unwanted places ...Radd Guy...
actually after letting it sit in the sun for a bit, the armorall seemed to distribute itself rather evenly and now looks real nice. i tried that, spraying on a cloth first, but i found that the vinyl type seemed like it was so dry that it barely spread, instead it sucked up alot of the spray in one spot.
