I read it before and it wasn't really an eye opener or anything, I assumed most of what he had to say before I bought my 'rolla. I mean its common sense, if you're buying a car that is 15-17 years old, its going to need a lot of work to bring it into 'good' shape.

People like not to think. They see a car for a couple hundred bucks and don't really realize to get that thing up to par. I paid $600 for my car and probably $1000 or more in parts already. It's not anywhere near being on the road. It's just an issue of short-sightedness.

Not for everyone

It's not common sense to all.

That was the whole point of "the AE86 way" posted before by Nick. Some guy will still go out and buy it cause he doesnt think of all that, he just knows everone else is getting one so he's In. Moto, was trying to discourage those who did that, into not buying one. Besides its the very fact that those guys are buying them that is causing ID Markup. Wouldnt you sell a 16 year old car to a 16 year old kid willing to pay double what it's worth?

I definetely would consider selling it because of the markup, but even after realizing that I could easily make a 400% profit on the car I bought and realizing that I will eventually spend upwards of $4000 on it to build it to what I want, I have decided to keep it.

As a side note, I feel as if some of you guys fail to realize that not all of us are Takumi wannabes, please don't group all of us who are new to the AE86.

I don't think that these comments are directed to anyone here specifically. It's more like an overview of what's going on. In other words, no one is being called a "takumi" wannabe.

Nah, thats not what I meant. It just seems the general consensus of some people around here. No offense to anyone, just an observation.

there are still a couple that had good owners, no rust , happy engine.... though of course its true that there are many concers about owning old cars

I am still looking for my perfect 86 , hehe..one day we will all have perfect 86s (although I think the perfect 86 is the sweat, toil , and pain over to make perfect) and it will then be a great world.

I'm not going to say much cuz I don't know a lot of you here. What I will say is that Moto was sick & tired of reading Newbie posts regarding the high expectations of owning an AE86. He simply was informing newbies, that's all. A lot of people all caught up in the hype of ID shouldn't own these cars for "dorifto" alone, but for it's motorsports heritage!
