As cool as it looks, you'd be wise to remove the header tape. It will ruin the header by holding in too much heat for too long and the metal will become brittle and crack. The tape insulates too well. I use it on my intake tube to keep the heat out of my incoming aircharge. Why is it used in racing? Because they don't care, they get headers for free. Other than that good luck and have fun!!

Its a stainless header.... if it breaks, I'll just make a new one... and why I have it on, is because I have the oilfilter about 5mm from the number 1 runner of the manifold and oil cooler lines running right next to it.
