AE86 Morning Start?

I have an issue in the mornings.

My AE86 Has a hard time starting after it sits for more then 8 Hours.

Usually after I get home, sleep, then wake up and go to work in the morning it's hard to start.

It's not the battery because i just put a new one in.

Weird part is once the car is started, She runs really strong.

Also the car starts great if it sits for less then 6 hours.

I'm thinking it's the starter but then it would happen all the time.

So I'm really confused right now. Can someone help me out!

if you have a carbed engine, then most probably its the automatic choke adjustment. the thermal spring which is connected to the choke itself might just need a little bit of tweaking.

Could be something with your ignition. My ignition switch is shot so when ever I start it it starts drops down to about 500rpm and sounds like it is going to stall out then starts. But when the engine is still warm it has no problem.

hey voodoo, mine does the same. it kinda sputters around 500 rpm for 3-5 seconds then starts. its the starter motor, the gear that shoots out to spin the fly wheel gets stuck in the out position. I'm just gonna replace it with a rebuilt one.

You're not telling us what exactly is happening. You mention the battery and the starter so would I be right to assume in the morning you get a 'click'?

You might look at the ignition switch first, sounds like the key may be sluggish going from 'start' to 'run'. If it is the starter, when you take it off you might just remove the 3 small screws that hold on an inspection plate. Inside you will find a plunger that needs cleaning badly. While in there stop by a local rebuilder and let them sell you a new set of contacts. Starter will be as good if not better than a parts store unit for about $10.
