Best oil to use '92 Corolla

Hello again,

I'm wondering which oil is best to use on a '92 DX Corolla? Uses a bit of oil between changes and currently it has 209,000 miles.

It's actually my mom's car so she uses it alot more than I do, and I'm leaving for a 2 month vacation so I'll instruct her as well because she knows nothing about cars. I don't want her to run the car without any oil!

If anybody can forward me to a link that indicates which oil to use for which temperatures, that would be great as we don't have the owner manual. I'm thinking 10W-30 for the Corolla, but I am not sure because I own a diesel and I think their oil ratings are different (S rated vs C rated).

By the way, would brand matter (mixing two oils of different brands)? As always, change it hot and change it often!

Thanks!

Edit: Forgot to mention, we're in Anaheim so ambient temps are roughly 50-90 deg F (night and day).

depends on if you're burning oil...... no burning oil go with 5-30 or 10-30..... if you're burning oil then go with a cheap 10-40.... no point in paying extra to have your engine just burn it

Yes it's burning oil--valve stem seals. No $ to have it fixed yet. I guess it's 10W-40 then<---Am I correct to assume it's multigrade oil?

Yes.

And use the Castrol high mileage and see if that helps, it may cause the seals to swell a little and you won't burn so much.

If you're burning a lot, just use the cheapest walmart oil you can.
