I got a 4afe in my car right now and i got a 4age that my friend gave me cause he said it ran out of oil and wouldn't start up again. I took it all apart and the cylinder walls are all scratched up, same with the crankshaft, one of the pistons is bad, and ect. But the head of the engine is still fine. So my question is could i take the head of the 4age and put it in my 4afe and actually gain some results from it? Like i asked a shop and went to napa and asked them if theres a difference between the head gaskets on both engine and they told me that they both use the excact same head gasket. And the shop told me that it would bolt right on. But i don't want to do all that work if i'm not gonna gain anything out of it. If someone could please reply that has done this before or knows it'll work for sure. Thanks
you will gain.... however, the compression won't be raised.... if anything it might be lowered.... you should definately find some 4ag pistons.... with a 4afe block you would have to use an early 4ag (pre 88) set....... some of the sensors are different, though....

Compression would be around the same as a GZE.... however you wouldnt have the advantage of the forged pistons.. but it would run on boost still.... VooDoo yes definately
so its not like a b16 that you can slap a b18 and it makes a big difference?
No. Even with an LSVTEC build up (B16 or GSR VTEC head on B18A/B "LS" block), the pistons will need to be, or should be changed otherwise compression will suffer. Not as dramatic as a 4AF/4AG head swap, but it'll have less compression.
