yo i have a 97 rolla CE and when the car is either driving strait or at a traffic light, the hood starts making a LOUD rattling sound on the passenger side. some times it goes away in Nuetral. i took it to a mechanic, and he said it MIGHT be the engine mounts but hes not sure and it was gonna cost $400 to replace/check it. idont want to spend that much unless hes sure of it, any of u guys have a idea?

might be hood bolts loose or the rubber mounts missing from the front where the hood closes down on the frame, or it could just be the hood skeleton thats separated from the hood skin.

I don't think he means his "hood" makes the noise.. I think he means its coming from "under the hood" in which case its probably just the manifold cover or one of the exhaust covers rattling, they usually rattle when you're in gear but it goes away in neutral or viceversa sometimes.

Is it still there when the hood is open? I had a cable rattling up against the hood that needed to be just tied down.

it stops when i put my hand on the hood. i think the hood is vibrating against in the metal on the side.

Mine too,

My 99 corolla's hood does the same thing. It is a loud metallic rattle that seems to come near the a pillar. Last night I heard it from outside the car and it seems to be comming near the hinge of the hood by the passenger side.

I upened the hood and I noticed that it was missing the rubber things on the side of the fender that support the hood. Might have to go get som at a junkyard
