acceleration/shifting problems

I have a 00 Corolla with a PO300 code, which is random engine misfire, I believe. The engine reacts very slowly when opening the throttle. If I step on the gas quickly, the engine chokes for a second before finally revving up. I can't even floor it though cuz it will just choke. This is the first problem...

The transmission also takes real long to shift to the next gear. I don't know if this problem is related to the engine problem, but it seems like it takes forever for the transmission to select the next gear unless I get off the gas.

Anyone have these problems, and how did you fix them?

Thanks

I have the same exact problem (engine) When you accelerate at a stop sign for example the engine sometimes "gets stuck" like if it was choking then the car moves very slowly and suddenly the engine revs really hard and the car accelerates.

I changed the sparkplugs, wires and filters and the problem persists. I also notice that the car gets really bad (almost undriveable) when raining. (the engine sputters and is hard to rev it up)

I am taking it to the shop soon.

Same acceleration problem in 01 5 speed. Changed plugs and filters with no luck. Has anyone resolved the problem? If so, could you tell me how?

Well my problem went away for a while by itself and now its coming back. I thinks it may be the ignition coils (or equivalent) I tried reconecting the ignition wires and made sure it was really tight and it seem to fis it but it is now giving me problems again.

Same problem in my 99 5 speed. Anyone gets it figure out, post solution please? I got po300 301 and 304. The car was running very poorly on the freeway. I cleared the codes, but I'm going to change the plugs and wires tomorrow if I have time.

Check your MAF sensor, that's what it was for me. You can test check it by pulling and cleaning with carb cleaner. Changing my coils did nothing, but a new MAF got me a new car. Best of luck!

Does the 1999 have a MAF? I thought it had a vane air flow meter like the older Toyotas? I'll have to check it out.
