Question Use of unleaded fuel, 1984 Corolla

Hi everyone, I`m trying to help my mom who refuses to part with her 1985 Corolla !!
I`ve had no replies from the "official" Toyota sites so I`m trying here.

The car is in the UK and she cannot get leaded fuel anymore.
Is the `85 engine capable of taking unleaded, or does she need to change the seats/valves?

If anyone has an e-mail address from where «i can get technical help like this I would appreciate having it.
The UK site only has a telephone number and since I`m -5hrs away it`s difficult to call.

Thanks in anticipation

I'm not 100% sure but I believe your car will work with unleaded fuel.. its the other way around I think.. newer cars that are meant to be unleaded only, will not work with leaded fuel. can someone confirm this?

I remember my father's 1988 with corolla 4a-f in Hong Kong are used to take lead gasoline. When they introduce unlead gasoline in around 1992 in HK, the corolla are fine with unlead gasoline. I'm not sure with the 1984 corolla.....did your corolla is europe spec or north america spec?

Can't somebody at Toyota answer this?

I know I've seen some kind of fuel additive that is supposed to act as a lead substitute, and they'd probably have that in the UK as well.

Gas

Is the car carburated or fuel injected? Mine is carb and the first time I put premium gas in it got 46.5 miles to the gallon!! . I like to put 91 octane in, it seems to run fine with anything I put in. I also prefer to buy a good brand gas, Amoco, Exxon, Chevron. But if it's soso brand of gas I always buy premium.

if the car requires leaded gas simply put unleaded gas in and put a lead additive in as well. any auto parts store and most gas stations around the world should sell it, it isn't that expensive. the lead in the gas acts as a lubricant.
