USA manual transmission fluid

Hey guys,

I was changing the fluid in my 5spd manual (1994 geo prizm) and the stuff that came out looked like automatic transmission fluid. My factory service manual says to use 75w90. I was wondering what everyone else is using in their manual transmissions?

Thanks

That sounds about right. The reason it may have looked like Auto Tranny Fluid is that is has been in there for a while. I don't think it will be any kind of a problem if that's what you're asking. but the 75w90 sounds about right. I use a little thinner for my 88 corolla but that's just cause it's older. You should be ok.

I put Redline synthetic oil in my '81 Corolla last year. I suspect the synchros are getting old (DOH - in a 24 year old car ) and when I put in regular MT oil I couldn't shift gears in really cold weather (like 20 below zero F). Odd thing though, it worked fine before I changed the oil and it was probably 22-year old MT oil in the thing. Things got a bit better with the synthetic oil. I think I went with the 90 weight (whatever the owner's manual recommended).
