welcome

1985-1987 Corolla GT-S are AE86s, RWD
1988-1992 Corolla GT-S are AE92s, FWD

so just a 1987 corolla will not be a AE86

and you're supposed to give your NAME in the "ME" part...

why? cuz you can see the rust in a 72 dpi picture thats about 300 x 300 pixels. that in itself should be an indicator to stay away.

the basic gist of it is that its usually not worth doing an sr5->gt-s conversion becasuse you need an entire donor gt-s anyway.. plus all the work it will take..

also rust is VERY expensive to fix if you want it done right.. if you do a half ass job, then its cheap, but it will come back in no time..

the half assed way being using bondo and fiberglass?

And what are the differences in GTS and the normal model?

is it only tat the GTS came twin cam? and if i wanted to do a 20 valve swap would it make sense to not get the GTS?

you should put a 20v in a sr5. thats the best bang for the buck...and it will be faster than a stock ae86. thats the way for sure.

first both gts and sr5 have twin cam engines in the gts its a 4age and in the sr5 its a 4af the four doors model had the 4ac single cam

gts 4age +/-120-128hp rwd fuel injected

sr5 4af +/-100hp rwd caburated

4 doors 4ac +/-80 hp front wheel drive carburated

in any case you want to put a 4agze or 3sgte or any other motor in it

you should always have a gts to begin whit...

cuze all the suspension the transmision differantiel even brakes are not the same

even the gas tank is not the same fuel injected models have a electric fuel pump in the tank
and the carburated models 4af and 4ac have a mecanical fuel pump on the engine

the 4age (gts)was built for power over economie
the 4ac and 4af were built for economie

like i said in the begining
both 4af and 4age are twin cams
but the the 4age is reconisable by the wider valve cover that you can clearly see that it as 2 cams
the 4af in the other hand does not show that it as 2 cams
the other egine (4ac)is a sohc (single over head cam) you guess it only 1 cam and 8 valves insted of 16 for twin cams or 20 for the 20v

hope this helps you a bit need help to clarify things

any other questions e-mail me
sgoyer@videotron.ca

ciao

toymaniac above is talking about an AE92

ok its like this...

AE86 (RWD) 1985-1987

GT-S uses 4age, DOHC, 112hp@6600, redlines at 7500
SR5 (also RWD) uses 4ac, SOHC, around 80ish hp....
normal 4-dr corolla uses 4ac, NOT RWD

AE92 (FWD) 1988-1992

1988-1989 GT-S uses 4age, DOHC, 112hp@6600
1990-1992 GT-S uses high compression 4age (red top), DOHC, 130hp
1988-1989 SR5 uses 4af, DOHC, 102hp
1990-1992 SR5 uses 4afe, DOHC, 102hp

the 112hp 4age is called "blue top", since it has blue lettering on top of engine, it is also refered to as "low-comp"

the 130hp 4age is called "red top", since it has red lettering on top of engine, it is refered to as "high-comp"

for more info on blue and red top goto club4ag.com, reference section
