short strokes .... you learn something new every day

Koni is not stiff at all, it's just that it can be adjusted to a very stiff setting. On contrast to many opinions, the Koni shocks are best for race cars as it's characters of hard rebound rate and very soft compression rate (when set properly) makes tanacious grip and peaky breakaway. It's the last shocks you'd want to choose for drifting.

Koni are available in short and full stroke. Short stroke ones are not listed as AE86. A Mazda SA22 RX7 rear units (for rear of AE86) and AW11 late model (88~ MR2) Rear units (for front of AE86) for front is a good setup to make short stroke Koni for AE86 race and autocrosser.

If you have drifting in mind, I would choose Tokico HTS (available in Japan) or Tokicko illumina. Illumina can be used in short stroke set with the same combination above from the 2 cars. Tokico has natural compression rates and rebound, and is very progressive on breakaway and stable under high angle drifts...contrasting Koni.

The TRD AE86 race short stroke gas shocks falls somewhere in the middle of Koni and Tokico concepts...and is a true multi-use shock absorber.

this was taken from the club 4ag website...i hope this helps all in their choice of shocks.
