Power steering fluid?

I bought valvoline synthic power steering fluid since my power steering is almost black. I flushed the previous oil and refilled with new valvoine oil. Later I found out from owner's manul, the recommended fluild is dexron III ATF.

Is it safe to use Synthetic power steering oil for corolla?

i have almost the same question. I have an '05 corolla LE, and my power steering fluid seems a little low, so I decided to add someo fluid. I read the manual and it states to add dexron II or III ATF. I have Prestone power steering fluid, so I was wondering if I could just add power steering fluid instead. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Bump and a question...........

I've noticed the last couple times I've taken my Camry to the local Toyota dealer they've been on a H-U-G-E........"Gotta flush/change your brake fluid" kick.

Now........I'm no chemist, but I've seen 30yr old cars hydraulic systems workin' just fine and Lord knows they've got 30yrd old brake fluid in there. Sure, it can't be the best, but on 5 year old cars I'm wonderin' why they want to change brake fluid so badly........($90 they want ta' boot).

So.......along these lines, I also had to wonder..........If they're so anal about "brake fluid"........why aren't they this anal about POWER STEERING and CLUTCH fluids????????

I notice they've NEVER asked me about those and certainly my last little '94 pickup had just as black a clutch fluid reservoir as the brake fluid reservoir was.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?????????????????????????????? ???????????
