1991 Corolla Stalling

I have a 91 Corolla and it constantly stalls. The car idles okay, however when I put it in drive it stalls about 2 seconds later. No matter how many times I start it up...it will stall a couple seconds after put it in drive. Anyone have suggestions on a cure. Thanks for your replies.

Does the idle drop and stumble when you put it in drive? or does it just stop? and can you get the car moving if you give it gas befor it dies?

just off the top of my head I'm thinking TCC (torque converter clutch) I the TCC isn't turning off, when you put the car in gear it would stall the motor. you might be able to get the car moving if you gave it gas befor it died, but it would have NOOOOOOO power, and when you came to a stop it would stall again.

give some more info and I'm sure we can all help you figure it out!

If your car is Carburetor fed, altho I doubt it given the year, check the carb.It might be a diaphragm.I had to change mine for the same problem. If not check your injectors.Have your torque converter checked while youre at it.Your car might be experiencing a fuel starvation problem. Also,it could be that your idle is adjusted too low.

The car goes into drive okay and when I let go of the brakes the car goes forward...but will stall after a few seconds of lightly gasing. The torque converter is good because the car doesn't stall when I have it on drive with the brakes applied. The problem is when the car starts rolling. Sometimes it will just stall after a couple of second of rolling without gasing. Car is okay when idling. there is no studering before it stalls...the car just turns off.
I tried changing the fuel filter but the new filter doesn't fit perfectly and leakes from the bottom bolt...So I put the old on back in. Thanks for all ur input.

Why would the new filter not fit properly???If you buy the correct one there is no reason it shouldnt fit. Also,if the new filter leaks its faulty and you should take it back to where you bought it.Have your fuel pump checked as well.Youre probably wondering why we're teling you to check so many things but its as simple as this.Experience teaches that when something on an automobile goes wrong,be prepared to check more than one culprit. Its all connected one way or another and in addition to that,if your car is "mature" like mine is you learn that any and everything can go wrong.Dont get me wrong,Im not saying that our Toyotas are no good-far from it but when they get up there in age(my car is 13yrs old!!) they tend to develop some personality quirks. At least youve done the smart thing and bought a Toyota.they are the most reliable cars on the planet!!!

update

well guys,

I did was increase the idling rpm. I am not sure what it's at but it is higher. The car tries to stall sometimes after it shifts out of first gear(automatic)...but because I increase the idling...it doesn't completely stall. Another thing I noticed is that when making a three point turn...when I take it out of drive to put it in reverse, the car stubbles and wants to stall. any other suggestions. Thanks

Hhmmm..thats tricky but try to have your fuel delivery system looked at.it seems as if there might be some supply problem.Check you fuel pump,or your fuel injectors if youve got a 4AF-E or your carburetor if youve got a 4AF.
