Question's...

How do I know if my waterpump is truly not working. I have 2 for my 4A-GE, and a new one is like $69.00 from CT. The inner fan, turns good, and coincides with the rotation of the pully. No berring noise, and not much play in the shaft. Do I really need to change it? I mean money is money, and I have other uses for it. Maybe I'm just overheating due to a thermostat? Also, I replaced the waterpump gasket (after doing timing belt) and now temp-sender is not working. Do they go often, I mean is that somthing that breaks a lot on this car?

One way to test the thermostat is to boil it in a pot and see if it opens and closes, at the correct temp.

Thats not cool, a new rad's like $300.00. Maybe I can find a rad thin enough from like an old cavalier or somthing. Crap!

CT quoted me at $275, and the thermo is only $8.00. Its running so hot it stalls after a while, I am still not driving it cause I dont want to blow it.

Sounds like your radiator to me as well.If it cant be "rodded out" then it will have to be replaced. Also, check the thermostat.Ive changed mine as well.Does your fan switch work??You might want to check that too.Ive changed three so far in three years!!!Maybe the ones I bought were no good but it never hurts to check.Especially when it comes to your cooling system.Im not sure how you tell when the water pump isnt working other than inmy experience(Ive been thru two!!)it starts to rattle and squeal when its going bye-bye.But try getting the radiator "rodded out" before replacing it.You might want to consider changing the tanks(top and bottom) from plastic to copper.Ive had that done and it works fine for me.However when you go that route you have to replace your radiator cap.

I understand your apprehension about buying a new radiator. They are expensive as hell here too.I had asked for a quote and the guy at the shop told me J$15000.00!!!!Thats about US$300.00.But if you have to,you have to.The cooling system is vital to your car's existence.

Well I can rule out the fan. On the AE86, (there rear wheel drive) So they still have the clutch fan, not an electric fan. Looks like I will opt for a new rad... oh well like everyone knows, the older the car, the more apt things are to go.

I recently replaced my rad up here in Oshawa for $160 for the rad itself, and around $80 for the oil cooler lines on my 89 GTS($425 after install for both + Taxes). The rad was brand new (a used one at Standard was going for about $125, and it had some rust.. so the new one wasn't a bad deal) The rad is all metal.. no plastic like some original rads. don't go to CT man.. I've heard too many stories about them... did their price include install?? I replaced mine cuz the car overheated on the highway.. but city driving was ok.. temp was always at the half mark.. you doing highway or city driving when you overheat? also.. you should check to see if the fins on your rad break too easy.. i put a nice hole on mine, LOL!( u know you need a new rad when..)
I remember I also called this one place in Scarboro.. Japanese auto parts i think it was, and they also priced me at $160 for the rad itself.. give them a try.. maybe they can get you one for around the same price.
BTW Brimmell Toyota wanted about $700+Taxes for an original rad and installation. WOW! they were the cheapest dealer I found in the T-dot area too.

I wasn't talking about the brands they sell.. they do sell a lot of good stuff.. im just talking about bad experiences with their work.. like ppl getting oil changes and them not putting the oil cap on the engine, etc..
