Need Advice On Strut Install...

Hello, I am new to this board. I will be installing some new struts, (front & rear) on my sisters '92 Corolla, (DX, FWD). Is there anything I should be aware of, or should know in advance prior to doing this? Just from eyeballing the struts, looks like a pretty straigft forward job. The only question I have at this time is, where do I gain access to the top of the rear struts? Thanks in advance.

Yes, I did a quick look inside the trunk & it seems like, maybe, to get to the top of the rear struts will be through the inside of the car by removing the upper portion of the rear seat? Not real familiar with Toyota's. I drive a '04 Focus ZX3 w/ the 2.3 Duratec.

ya i replaced mine after hitting a curb, with some from a dx. yours are really easy to take out. the seat should pop out and there is the top. a little suggestion....if you don't have to take off the sway bars or lat bar don't cause they are a bitch to get off. the front should be really easy.....you should be able to get it done in about an hour or 2 depending on you skill level................

I'd also suggest getting an alignment after you do the fronts.

PS. I don't know how handy you are but DO NOT remove the bolt with the allen hole in on the top of the strut. boooiiiinnggg

you'll either need a dremel tool or know how to bleed the brakes........ brake lines run through the strut tabs

thats whats keeping me from installing my struts 'kind of' ...i will be doing my replacement solo, cant afford to screw up....

how do I "bleed" the brakes.... ive gotten everything out/off but I stopped when I realized I couldnt just 'move' the lines (like my 2k accord suspension) ...

sorry for the dumb q....

id rather not 'bleed' anything, i just want the brakelines detached from the sturts, so I can replace em...... short on time these days..... i might just cut the ear holding the lines to the old struts, and ziptie em to the new ones.......

no need to bleed the brakes. Just unscrew the bolt/braket holding the break line to the strut, and unbolt the 2bolts for the caliper. hang the caliper or put it on something ~ Dont leave it hanging on the break line.

As far as replacing the strut itself, i recommend you take the rotors off with the strut mounted on the car because sometimes the rust will "glue" the rotor to the strut, if this is the case, you want the strut mounted and hammer the caliper (HARD, rotor wont bend, crack or get dammaged in any way...hit as hard as you can if you must to get it free)

Removal of the strut itself should be easy, if you dont know pm me and i'll tell you how. got some pics from ae86 procedures which should be the same for your fronts, and use the same thing for the rear with some commong sense.
