JDM motor smog question

Hi, I'm looking to get an FX-16 GTS. I think it's got a 4AGE motor. The very limited ones I was able to find has tons of miles.. The question I have is if I swap out the original motor with one of those low milage ones from Japan, will I have any problems getting it smoged.. I don't plan on doing any high performance upgrades to the motor.. Thanks in advance

If you try to get it smoged, you will be referred to a "referee." The referee will check the emissions equipment if they are present. If everything checks out, it will be given a referee sticker and you can have it smoged. If not, they'll tell you what needs to be done before it will be given a referee sticker.

No... you don't have to go to the BAR ref. Only time you would need to, is if you're trying to legalize an engine change, as in swapping in an engine that is different from the original. When you swap in a JDM replacement engine, just be sure to use your stock manifolds and keep all of the emission stuff on there (EGR, EVAP, PCV, etc)... The engine will be totally legal and should smog fine so long as the motor and emission parts are in good order.

Attarco in SAC usually carries low-mileage replacement motors (most from overseas) and those come with a 6 month warantee (with some minor restrictions).
