1996 Corolla transmission problem

Until my 1996 Corolla warms up, it will not downshift properly. Once it's warmed up, no problems. Can this be fixed?

You mean downshift or shift to drop RPM? like, up shift? and do you see this from a tachometer or by feel? Toyotas won't shift up when cold to keep the rpm up around 2000, in some models, I know a Sienna that does it. ,and they feel slow when cold too,( not down shifting, to keep the RPM low enough?) don't know if that's the case.

i think it is not a downshift problem..
maybe it is on the auto-choke...
it will be turned on till the engine is a bit warm to run normally...

I can't see the rpm on this car, but I believe it is to downshift. In other words, when I accelerate, the car won't shift out of the gear I am in when I let off the gas, or it reaches the gear on its own, as I am accelerating until the engine is warm. Pardon my poor grammar.

yeah i had the problem,

if you want the speedy way, sit for 10-20 seconds and go through all your gears, N D 2 L and back up and back down

or you can warm up your car for 1:30-2 minutes

both these methods work

at least for my 1996 Corolla DX 1.8L 4AT

Yes, that's my problem too. Does anyone know why this happens?
