Canada 2000 Corolla CE Speaker Replacements (How)

I just got a beautiful 2000 Corolla CE on Saturday. It's a great little car but I want to replace the factory stereo. I had a quick peek in the trunk and it looks like you need to remove the whole rear deck cover to get the speakers out. When you get that off I believe you take the one screw out and slide the speakers forward enough to release then from the clips. Any idea what the rear and front sizes are? I read a post on another board that said the rear are either 6 1/2 or 6/34. Not sure about the front. Any ideas how to get the front ones out?
Will likely buy some Pioneer speakers to replace them. Have had good luck with them and can't afford a lot.

Also does anyone know how to get the factory cd player out? I'm sure I would know how after the trim comes off. Is it released somewhere under the ashtray?

Stock speakers for the 2000 Toyota Corolla CE are 6.5" at the rear and 5.25" in front. Tell me how your setup works out. I'm planning to upgrade mine as well.

Thanks Aris, that helps out a lot. I will keep you posted. I have to replace the cd player first as it skips all the time and will not play cdrs. Cleaning has not helped either.

The factory cd player trim just pops out. Just grab it by the a/c vents and pull straight out. And the rear speakers, you have to take the trim off to get to them. Then just remove the screws and slide out. Anybody know how to get the door speakers out? I know how to get the panel off but the speakers have a weird bracket that I cant figure out how to remove.

2000 front speakers are not on a bracket you have to use a 5 mm drill bit and drill through the three rivots that hold them in place. then remove the wireharness clip directly above the speaker from the inner door panel and undo that connection. (if you are not planing an elaborate sound system I would sugest you clip off the w/h from the speaker side and use it to connect your new speakers.

Yes I finally got it done this weekend!! You were right, the stock rears are 6.5 and the front were 5.25. I bought Pioneer 6.5 for the back but was not happy with the bass so I removed the stock ones in front (removed the adapter) and mounted the new Pioneers. Sound ok up front. I had some good 6x9's from my old car so I cut some sheet metal and had to turn them a bit to fit. Have to tidy up around them as the grilles did not completely fill the old hole. Boy they made a big difference in overall sound!! Only tough part was trying to line up the new holes and drilling holes so a sheet metal screw would grab underneath to hold them down. Bought a nice Panasonic CD/WMA/MP3 player for the front. Sounds very good. If you are going to buy stock size speakers spend some time listening for a good pair and spend the extra money.

Good to know it turned out well! I'm planning to put 6.5"s up front to replace the stock 5.25"s. What Pioneer model speakers did you put up front?

Hi dudes, I'm also trying to fix 6.5" pioneer TS-D601P speakers in my Corolla 2000 LE front door, I've pull off the old speaker and their %@#$% adapter. I'm new in the domain and I'm searching a solution to fix it, the speakers are too deep and stop at the window. How have you mount yours and what mod have you done?

Thanks!

Is this what they look like?
http://www.audio-warehouse.com/web/m...01P/detail.asp

The outer ring looks exactly like mine do, but mine are 3 way speakers. Yes the adapter is useless and you don't need it at all. I just pushed my speakers in the empty hole and ran new screws through the outside speaker ring to the door mount. Hard to explain in words. The only problem was the speaker ring is just big enough to catch the door ring. have to use good sheet metal screws and washers to hold them as you can see in the picture you will need to use the outer 4 slots that have no backs on them. If you don't use washers the screws will come right through. Also I just got some thick weatherstripping from the hardware store (about 3/4" thick) and stuck it on the speakers backs. When you tighten the screws up they will squash down and make a nice rattle proof seal. Let me know.

I finally saved money for a Pioneer DEH-P4700MP head unit to replace the factory stereo. I love the improvement in sound quality, and i bet it would get better with aftermarket speakers as well.

My problem is still the front door panel speakers. I was able to remove the panel, but how do you remove the stock speaker adapter? by drilling? and what size bit? or can you just pull it off with force without damage?
