Red face DRL Revisited !!

I know... beating the subject to death.

Does anyone have/and would be willing to share the official Toyota TSB for disabling the DRL for 2003/2004/2005(in particular) model years? I asked the dealer service dept today and they told me that info was propietary and that any work of that nature would have to be performed by a Toyota service tech... what a load of crap. Just trying to suck more $$ out of us for what looks like a very simple alteration.

I have to drive on to a military base every day and right now it ain't so bad cause it's summer, but come this winter when i drive in at dark the guards are not going to be very happy.

Help would be appriciated

I think the guards would be understanding as many cars have this standard now... but - have you tried pulling the e-brake up one notch before starting the engine? The brake will not be engaged, but the lights will be under your control. I changed my DRLs to be the amber sidemarkers, like most chevy vehicles, and use the ebrake method to disable the headlights. Also, note, this will disengage your twilight sentinels which is what turns the lights on after dark. This doesn't include cutting wires, and can easily be reversed. Hope this is what you are looking for.

OH - the dealerships in Colorado Springs won't even vist the DRL topic with you - they say they don't even touch it even if you paid them. Not very universal with their answers.

I don't know; think i would be kind of wary about having the ebrake pulled up. Doesn't this keep the brake warning light on?? I'll have to try it out. But i don't mind the DRL; just want to be able to dim the lights when i want to after dark.

anyway, i searched all the TSB titles on the NHTSA site for years 1999 thru 2005 and the last year i found a bulletin addressing DRL disabling was 2000; nothing after that... and i have a copy of that from another thread on this forum.

PS.. how did you do the switch to parking lights?

Yes, the brake light will stay on, but you can put a piece of tape over it. I have not been able to find anything on TSB after 2000 either. As for switching the lights, I bought a part off the internet for like $30 - real nice system and easy to install. I have the site at home, you can email me if you want it.

if I was going to do that then I'd just take the brake light out instead of taping over it. its not hard to take the instrument panel out and pull bulbs from them. thats what I did to the seat belt light too, I got tired of the thing blinking all the time when I was parked somewhere with the seat belt off. it looks better that way than taping over lights.

cutting the wire isnt a hard fix if you'd ever even want to, just clamp them together with a connector if you dont want to hook up a on/off switch to begin with. I thought about installing a hidden rocker switch in the top of the tray in the dash where you'd be able reach your finger into the tray to turn the drl's on, instead of having the switch above the glovebox where you'd have to lean way over there to switch them on. I just decided not to use a switch and I'll reconnect the wire later if I even want to.

Snaps, I have the print out of the TSB, I got it online somewhere, you can probably look it up and search for it.
