vvt and itb's

hey i wanted to know, is there a sound directly associated with vvt. and also individual throttle bodies, contained in the 20v. if so how does it sound cuz i was cruising through some boards and heard a few guys mention that it sounds nice. for all you vvt or 20v owners how does it sound......

The ITB's give the 20v a very distinct whine, sounds (to me) very loosely like you got a turbo from inside the car. Most of my friends reckon they can pick my car up from a couple of blocks away on a still night, especially if i'm hammering.

The VVT does give it more of a higher pitched whine, but only because the engine is running much more efficiantly, and cause it is producing more power.

Overall, the 20v's sound sweet.

my smallport 4age does the same thing....

in any case, if you pull the plenum off and run open ITB's... that's when they start sounding awesome and you really notice a huge difference in throttle response..... this soon shall occur in my ae92 with the smallport

though it sounds better with open ITBs... there's not much difference in throttle response, well maybe a little but the trade off is much higher.. buying a MAP BT ECU, map sensors, velo stacks, and maybe a piggyback if you don't want to run rich all the time. i think running a MAP set-up with the plenum will work much better and safer.

actually me and a friend have figured out a very easy way to get vacuum readings (map) off an ITB setup...... to have a correct map reading, it needs to be AFTER the throttle body (or bodies in this case)..... if you look at the itb's off of the car.... turn them upside down, you will notice that you have roughly 3-4" or so between the butterfly valve and the end of the unit.... (and i you are using them on a 16V then you have another 2" or so for the adapter plate). For each body, just drill a small hole, tap in a line feed, then use a vacuum box to have vacuum readily available (brakes, map, ps, etc.....)

^^ You dont even need to do that.... There are Vacum hoses coming off of each throttle that you can just tap a tee peice into.
