Steering wheel shakes?!

I've got a 99 corolla ve. Whenever i push the brake pedal to slow down at a light for example, the steering wheel vibrates pretty vigorously. Anyone know a cause for that? Am thinking i need a wheel alignment but correct me if am wrong (am not really an auto wiz)

Hey, 519.......if it only happens when you're braking, it's likely you need your front rotors turned - sounds like they warped to a degree and the "wobbling" pulsates when brakes are applied. I'd start with that, and if it's not that, it could be something in the front end - worn suspension /steering parts, alignment (although if you needed an alignment, I think you'd feel the car "pull" to one side or another, afaik. good luck - get it looked at soon, or it's gonna end up costing you even more to fix in added wear and tear here and there.

yeah, it doesnt really pull to one side or the other, so am guessing i'll have to get the rotors checked up. Another question though, around how much would the turning cost :P

definitly go with the brakes. if the steering wheel shakes only when braking 99% chance it's the front brakes.

Off hand, I dunno - our Corolla is only a few months old, so it's good, and our pos "GM product" eats brake pads/shoes/rotors/drums like they're midnight snacks - my local mechaninc is used to me coming back every 2 months or so with warped rotors on the pos, so he basically does it at no charge - he more than gets his $$$ back in constant return business for other repairs on the hunk o' junk....this will be my very last GM product, ever, period !!! (Only reason I have it is it was my dad's and he can't drive anymore, so he gave it to me....the price was right....well, almost....I've never had so much trouble with one car (oh yeah, it eats coil packs and ignition modules frequently as well......
ANYway, I can't imagine it being more than $30 - $40 usd (just a guess, like I said....)

Check your rotors for the front...

I face that before last time, although is my motobike.
It only occurs wen i brake normally ok...
So i ignore it so at the end my bearing is gone...
They said is the bearing problem...
So for car is the rotor of your fronts wheels that make that problem
