Wink Daytime running lights 2001 Corolla LE

Got my wife a 2001 Corolla LE in Dec 04 (24,000) mile on it. She had been driving a 1970 MGB-GT for the past 25 years and I felt she was getting too old to keep driving a non powered anything vehicle. (she started huffing and puffing hand cranking the engine to start it.) The everything powered she likes, except for one thing-THE DAYTIME LOWBEAM LIGHTS ON. I did not get an owners manual with the car but got the headlight wiring diagram from an old friend who is still in the auto repair business. The dealer says there is no way to turn off the daytime running lights. Prior to retiring, I had 50 years experience in aircraft and automotive mechanical and electrical systems and built my own electronic ignition systems for the other old vehicles that I have. The wiring diagram does not show the innerds of the daytime running light relay. I do not want to spend a week figuring out the innerds of it. Has anyone attempted to turn off the daylight runnning lights, and if so, have any suggestions or a shortcut as to accomplish my objective before I start probing the DRL. "Note" there's more relays in the headlight circuit of this can than the total relays in all of my other 6 'old' vehicles.

The dealer lied to you straight up. Also, if he looks into it, he probably has a TSB as well for it, as some people NEED their DRL's off because of military and private communities.

Here's a DIY written by one of the posters over on some other Toyota forums.

Simple enough. Good luck.

Thanks for the quick response, got the web page on my desktop and will print it tonight. I already decided to put a manual switch on it to turn it back on if ever needed to.
I have already had the relay out, that part is pretty easy, requires a #10 metric socket and driver and a phillips head screwdriver also a thin straight slot screwdriver to pry off the plastic clips holding the lower door frame molding. Finding the wire to cut would have taken some time though.

Hello, I have a 2001 Corolla and this seems to be the best place to find information on disabling my DRLs, but everyone always references this "vamp.darkravers.net" website which does not work. The website seems to no longer be around.

Does anyone have an alternative source for this information?

References are bad... copies and mirrors are needed.

Edit: I found this elsewhere:

"The daytime running lights are activated or come on when the alternator input signal on the yellow wire pin 13 of the daytime running light relay is active. If you disconnect or clip this wire going to the daytime running light relay it will not energize the daytime running lights system."

Anyone got a link for a diagram of this, or can confirm it is accurate?

Edit2: How about this ?

http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/...6&postcount=18

It links to an ehow.com post directing me to cut a wire for pin 23 behind the glove box. What do you guys think?
