in the last two or so weeks i have noticed a knocking sound coming from the engine bay when i back off and excelerate again. u can feel it jult when u excelerate. it feels like an engine mount or a bolt is broken. you can here it knocking aswell. my friend had a rwd rolla that made the same noise. does any1 know what it is? it also sounds like u can here the gears select when i change from 1st to 2nd and into 3rd. i hope i have explaned it as good as i could. i have never changed the gear box oil. its just about done 200,000kms and ive had it over a year, do u think its time for a gear box oil change?

Time to change the oil i think. But the AE series cars are known for wearing the rear engine mount. Check all engine mounts. If you can, get the engine out of the car and inspect all 4 mounts properly.

how can i tell if my engine mounts are any good? should i just take it to a toyota place and get them to look at it and get them to change my gearbox oil? i dont have any ramps or jack stands.

and only 1 jack.

is it a metal on metal knock? If unsure it could be detonation... do you know what that sounds like? It 9 times out of 10 only happens under higher RPMs. Just a thought.
