Just bought an 87 AE86.. swap options?

Hey guys, I'm new to this board. Anyways, I'm a Honda boy.. I'm used to talking B-series engines, VTECH and such.. but I saw this car in the classifieds and couldn't pass it up.. $4000 Canadian.

It was repainted, only 190,000kms.. super clean interior. So I've been doing my Toyota research. I know the basics of Toyota engines.. and this car has a 4A-GE. Not very powerful, but still cool none the less.

I already tried searching this on here, but didn't find much. I'm looking for a possible new powerplant for this car as I make it my project. Just wondering, how hard/expensive would it be to swap a JDM Celica 3SGTE into this Corolla? Since this car is RWD, I figure the 3SGTE is coming out of a Celica GT-FOUR which would be 4wd.. therefor the engine is set up for a driveshaft, am I right or wrong? Also, Mounting the engine.. custom mounts? expensive? any other problems I would have to encounter?

Anyone on this board have the swap done? I just want to know what I'm getting myself into, and thanks in advance guys.

no AE86 is just the model number.. the AE86 ran from 1983-1987

^ no what Rust_bucket was saying is that the "AE86" designation is the chassis code, not the years of the car.

3SGTE swap would be a complicated swap if you're a novice however experience mechanics/hobbyists have done this swap even on a smaller car like the Starlet. check out the last Eastend Meet for pix. AFAIK, you need a custom mounts, custom bellhousing, a W5X series tranny, custom driveshaft, FMIC with proper piping, custom intake plenum, exhaust manifold.. hmmmm, if i missed something's i'm sure the others will fill you in... contact kpsxtyone on this board, he just finished doing a 3SGTE swap on his starlet.

haha.. you're a noob still, you got a lot to learn about your car.. that's like me back in the day, thinking "Hachi roku" meant rusted hatchback in japanese.. so I thought my old Civic hatchback was a Hachi..

because it's just that, and assumption, just like u assumed the AE86 meant it went through the year 1986....

i thought tehy were 84-87

is this a daily driver? if not, i'd consider the 4age 20V. Not neccessarily the most powerful engine, but a damn cool engine nonetheless.

Well, how much are you willing to shell out on a car? That's the main question.

Here are the swaps that I've personally seen on Corollas:

3s-gte
3s-ge
1jz-gte
2jz-gte (BARELY fits)
7m-gte (Looks like it's trying to burst out of the car)
5m-gte
and the formula atlantic motor

Unorthadox but people still do these swaps:

13b rotary
20b rotary
SR20-DET
RB20-DET

2jz-gte.. in an AE86? OMG. Isn't that sure death? Hmmm.. I can buy a JDM one for $3600 US.. I'd kill myself.

Well thanks alot everyone.. I'm definately gonna be looking into this stuff..

There's a 2JZGTE swap going on in the Toronto area.. I forget who's doing it.. I think Ryan with the yellow KP61 is doing it. I can't wait to see this one, since he just finished doing the 3SGTE swap into the KP61.
