Intake for '89 4A-F?

Any intakes available for the '89 4A-F?

If not, how about K & N filter?

Has anyone had any experience with any intake upgrades and how worth it they are?

I'm basically looking for a relatively cheap performance upgrade if there is another option. I'm talking about something under $200.

Thanks,

Brad

well i have the K & N filter is does make a difference than the regular one. Nothing really big but it a start i find the difference is for take off and long distance driving. also to get more power i cut off the cat on the car and put a straight pipe with the shell of the cat. which i thing is illegal, but in montreal they don't really care! Other than that there isn't much more cheap things u can do u get more power from a 4af. I also heard that if u relocate the intake for the carb to a place where is air can flow easier or if u have a scoop on the hood that enter right into the carb it helps. So i heard i don't know who true it is, but i think it doesn't really help.

It looks cool to me man!!!!I doubt theres much we can do to our 4AFs cuz I think they were basically the econo engines. The mighty 4AGs of course being the sporty ones.Changing the filter and exhaust should help a bit tho.And if youre really serious you could always fabricate something yourself!!!

Dont underestimate the power of the the 4A-F, what makes it very competative is the fact that the torque curve is very wide and flat, so when you shift you wont fall from the powerband, just loads of acceleration. One thing you can bare in mind is, when you accelerate, dont just mash the gaspedal to the floor, ease it in and keep it a tad bit closed. This will keep the vacume up and carbs work with vacume
THe 4A-F(E) and 4A-G(E)'s power differences are minute if we compare stock vs. stock and with slight modifications, you can pump some muscle out of the 4A-F... Right now I'm searching for options for a 4A-GZE, 3S-GTE ir a 4A-GE 20V installation into my corolla.

Wow!!!!Sounds like youve got some big plans for your ride Flashmn!!!!!!Ive never really thought of the 4AF as even remotely sporty but when you think about it,I suppose it just might have potential. Is the car in your sig yours???Btw,thanks for the acceleration advice!!!!!!

Thats neat, but heck that must cost a kidney! Problem is that in Finland we have this modification percentage law and we have a power limitation (latter you can go around)... so I'm thinking that the 4A-GZE would be the best option, cuz I can use the stock tranny from the 4A-F with a 4A-GE flywheel to bolt onto the 4A-GZE engine, because the bellhousing of the 4A-F/FE/G/GE is smaller than the GZE... otherwise it should bolt right on. Will this pose a problem? I hear alot of people say, yes it will infact. The problem is that the clutch will be undersized for the torque and hp coming from the GZE, so let me just say I'll burn clutches alot.. I'll probably try to use a Semi-racing, but streetable clutch to handle the strain :\
Plus with the 4A-GZE I can always detune the engine going to the inspection, so that the hp will be stock 145whp ;P

Although, keeping the 4A-F is one option... maybe getting the injection manifold and parts and slapping on a turbo, running 10psi boost should stirr up some s#it...OR keep the 4A-F a n/a and get some better carbs like keihins or mikunis and then increasing the compression ratio to 11:1 or 11.5:1 ;P and getting some wide cams along with minor headwork. Should put out about 140-150hp that way. Which is alot for a 945kg car

Wow guys!!!!Youre giving me all kinds of inspiration for my 4AF!!!!!!Toymaniac,have you done any mods at all to your engine or are you still running it stock?Im upgrading my rear brakes as well.Got the back end from a JDM 1991 Levin and Ive gotten the right hand side handbrake cable so far.Cant wait to finish this modification as braking ability is a serious concern for me.
