manual tranny oil drain plug location??

hello guys,

I am new here. I just bought a 94 geo prizm 5sp with the 1.6(the engine is a 4afe). The car was clean and just needed some minor repair i could do myself. The last thing my car needs done in order to get this car perfect is a manual transmission flush. my problem is that i'm unsure where the drain plug is. i have a hayne manual and been underneath the car for sometime.

1st question is. which drain plug is the one you remove and stick your finger into to check and refill gear oil. is it the gold bolt which looks like a 12mm or the big silver bolt located just above the gold one. both theses plugs are located front lower section of the tranny.

2nd question is. does this car have a tranny drain plug besides the one i mention before. i just can't find one. To some extent i was thinking it might be the silver bolt located were the diff is. being that there is only 2 silver bolts i'm starting to think that maybe these are the drain plug bolts.

3rd question. does anyone have any recommendations regarding gear oil. I went to the toyota dealership and found that the oil they use to flush tranny is the CRC brand(known for making carb, brake, and misc sprays) they were selling a 80w-90 for 4wd, limited slip etc, but was not synthetic oils. My local auto part store did not carry this brand of oil but valvoline synthetic and some mobil one gear oil. i don' t know what i should go with. any info would be great.

thanks alot

ok to find the drain plug find the drivers side driveshaft then follow it to the transmission just below it on the outboard side you will find a 24mm bolt head thats the drain plug,
the check/fill plug is on the front of the transmission facing forward and is the same 24mm bolt as the drain plug. You will have to take down the splash guard under the car, you will also need a funnel with 2' of hose to fill the trans. Also use a high quality gear lube not some cheap junk
