I found a rear-sway bar from an '88 Corolla GTS and was wondering if it would fit a '91 Corolla sedan.

I was looking at how it was connected to the GTS and then looked at my Corolla. I don't think it would fit, but I could be wrong. I was wondering if anyone had done it or if they had pics of the underside of the rear-suspension in the '91 Corolla.

Thanks

if you previously have a sway bar then rip the other one off and then try to fit the new one on, if there are no mounts for the sway bar, then you gotta custom make them if you're up to it

Actually, the rear bar WILL fit. A guy on the Toyota Mods List did this. I'm not too sure on the details, but the provisions for the bar, or the brackets are already part of the chassis. I'll try to dig up the info.

I can't find the info. His site is at

http://www.ae92gts.com

He did the brakes on an AE92 sedan, and I think the suspension bits too.

Felt like scanning something all of the sudden. Haha, well, since this topic is on AE92, I'll scan a picture I found in my friend's magazine he brought over from Hong Kong a while back.

Sorry, I have no idea what the text is about. Can't read Chinese

All I can make out of that is this car makes 1 minute 10 seconds at the Tsukuba circuit.

the corolla 91 gts fits the sedan. but you need the gts struts casue those struts have a flange welded on it for the linkage of the sway bar. you can also put one on the front but you got to weld the sway bar tabs on. so when your rear struts go out dont replace them with the corolla sedan struts get the gts 91 strutsbetter if you find a 91 gts at a junkyard. NA I dont like that one as much.

go to the real corolla site club4ag.com and look at the fwdcorolla pics and look for the all deep shiny red ae92corolla sedan. i like that one.

I have a 1988 Corolla GTS and my girlfriend has a 1990 Corolla DX 4 door on which I am installing a complete GTS suspension.

Yes the rear bar will bolt on as long as you use struts for an SR-5 or GTS, both of which had a rear bar, so there will be a place for the sway bar link to attach. The unibody should have the threaded inserts for the rear sway bar mounts.

NOTE: The SR-5 strut is not valved as stiffly as the GTS, the sway bar is smaller, and the rear springs are not as stiff, but the strut housing is the same.

I'm putting Koni sport inserts in the used sealed strut housings I am using with the stock GTS rear bar and springs.

WARNING! Installation of the GTS rear bar without the GTS front will make the car oversteer severely, especially if you are used to the stock 4 door suspension with no bars, which is designed for severe understeer. The GTS has a really big front bar. If you are not going to install the GTS front bar, maybe you should just use the SR-5 rear bar, which is much smaller than the GTS rear bar. SR-5's did not have a front bar.

There is a tab on the front lower control arm of the GTS which the front sway bar link connects to. You can get the arms from the wrecking yard with the other pieces, or they are available new for aproximately $125 US each (wholwsale). If you had a bent GTS control arm it might be worth cutting off the tab and welding to a good sedan or SR-5 control arm. I am told that all the replacement lower control arms for sedans and coupes have the tab now, but I haven't checked this out.

Also the mount for the front sway bar on a GTS is a special variant of the mount for the rear bushing on the front lower control arm. The mount has an additional cavity for the rubber sway bar bushing for the front sway bar. Again, get these from the wrecking yard, or new from Toyota. I believe they are approximately $35 US, plus the bushings for the sway bar.

MY Question: Does anybody know of a replacement bushing for the front of the lower control arm so that the entire arm doesn't have to be replaced when the bushing dies? I don't mind fabricating but I'd rather not develop my own solution from scratch.
